Graphic Design (Don Bosco)
Graphic designers are creative thinkers and problem solvers who use a range of design methods, processes and techniques to create professional communication designs, such as posters, books, magazines, corporate logos, packaging and web sites, both individually and as members of teams. The course offered at Don Bosco Technical Institute exposes students to the entire design process and offers a holistic approach to graphic design as a creative career.
Course Content
The program provides a theoretical and practical approach to education offering professional skills, theoretical foundation, and general education to aid students in the development and maturation of their artistic abilities and to solidify their technical skills. Emphasis is placed on learning the concepts and skills for creating computer graphics, web design, and illustrations.
Tools include graphic software such as Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, Coreldraw, Indesign, premier, After effects and other applications. These softwares are the most prevalently used computer programs throughout the world. During the course of the year, emphasis is given to communication skill, Life skill, computer fundamentals, Digital prepress and Printing processes.
Throughout the year, students will be issued various design problems and projects, and then asked to develop design solutions over a period of days, the development of each project will be closely advised, monitored by the instructors. Later the projects will be presented, discussed then graded according to how thoroughly they solve the design problem.
Career Opportunities
By the end of the course, the students will have acquired the training necessary to interview for positions in graphic design firms, advertising agencies, or marketing firms, for newspapers, magazines and book publishers. Candidates can find entry positions as graphic designers, illustrators, and production coordinators. After gaining professional experience, individuals may eventually go on to advanced positions such as leading designers or project managers. Others may establish their own design firms or take on challenging freelance assignments or start their own graphic design business.
