08 Nov 2021-Rangoli competition at DBTI

Rangoli is an art form originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor or a tabletop using materials such as powdered limestone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand, quarts powder, flower petals, and coloured rocks. It is an everyday practice in Hindu households, however, the colours are preferred during festivals and other important celebrations as it is time-consuming. Rangoli are usually made during Diwali, Onam, Pongal, Sankranthi and other Hindu festivals. Rangoli are usually made outside the threshold of the main entrance or corridors where viewers can notice easily.

The trainees of DBTI, Okhla had a competition for Rangoli on 3 rd November when eight groups of students took part in the same. They were allotted the verandah near the entrance of the institute to create their own designs and the time allotted was 45 minutes.The competitors were passionate and enthusiastic to bring out the best possible design. It was really encouraging to see some students and staff moving from group to group seeing the progress of the designs. This further motivated the participants to bring out their best. At the end of the stipulated time, the designs were assessed by Fr Sajan, Fr K.A Joseph and
Dr. Vikas Rao. As per the judges, the trainees of 2 nd year machinist had the best design and the second and third position went to COPA B and COPA A respectively. Hearty congratulations to all the participants especially the winners for their creativity and passionate participation in the competition.
