Don Bosco Skills Mission, Bangalore: 2nd & 3rd April 2022

Coming together, planning together and working together is essential for the success and well running of any organization or group of institutions. Keeping in mind the importance of the same, the heads of Don Bosco Technical Institutes met together on 2nd and 3rd April 2022 at DBSM in Bangalore. DBSM is a wonderful place where one can enjoy an environment-friendly atmosphere. There are 28 Don Bosco ITIs in India and of which 25 came for the meeting together with the heads of four Don Bosco Polytechnics. This meeting is normally held twice a year to plan, evaluate, to raise concerns as well as to share the good practices of the different training centers. The group was privileged to have several corporates coming forward with their presentations and they were willing to collaborate with the institutes.

The program had begun on 2nd April at 9.15 am with a short prayer followed by an introduction to the two-day program by Fr George Mathew, the Executive Director of DBTECH. Soon after that Mr. Ramesh and his team were invited to give a presentation on Autodesk and its relevance in the training institutes. They have agreed to train free of cost, the staff of the institutes and in turn, the staff will have to train the trainees. Most of the institutes were happy to grab the facility offered by the corporate. The next presentation was by FEAST (Fatigue Engineering Analysis and Simulation Tools) on V R (Virtual Reality). Mr. Naishad, Mr Ghanashyam and Mr. Sunil represented FEAST and their presentation was relevant to enhance the present-day practical training. Their presentation which is a sort of 3-D animation demonstrated how a trainee can really excel in practical knowledge. The learning is made easy and fast through the technology presented.

AKRITI Precision Systems gave a presentation on CNC products which enhance the training program. Mr. Tapan Chaudhary who is the CEO of the company elaborated the details with the demonstration of CNC machines. Another presentation was by Mr. Richard on a precision measuring system. He had brought a model on which various measurements could be experimented. This in fact gives a hands-on experience to the trainees how to handle measurement system in the right way. Mr. Ashish and team had come from Kolkata with their innovative way of doing business. They are into mobile repairs, solar training, EV charging systems, drone technology and managing school data. Representatives from Accenture Mr. Niraj and Mr. Nitesh came forward with a solution to check the quality of water that we drink as well as the water used for various purposes.

Fr. Varghese from BOSCO, gave a presentation on POCSO and urged everyone to implement in the training institutes as this is mandatory nowadays. Br. Tom C J gave a small session on the importance of having proper service rules appointment for staff as well as POCSO committee and women harassment redressal committee in the institutes to address safety and security of all. A sample of service rules was presented and explained briefly. He also agreed to share some samples of service rules and other documents which would be useful.

There was also time given for a general discussion especially on the recent changes made by NCVT regarding exams and syllabus. The meeting came to an end at 4.00 pm. On the whole, the two-day program was beneficial to everyone. It was also decided to have the next meeting of the ITI principals in the first week of July 2022.
